I’ve been so immersed in the information side of this Covid 19 situation we all find ourselves in, in reaction I’ve decided to put up a blog post to streamline and improve your habits in working remotely, that I can evolve and change daily as the content comes my way. There will be a lot of people looking for work in the coming days, so why not get familiarized with the remote options out there?
My spare time has been freed up somewhat as a Calgary photographer , so it’s time to revert to other ways to stay busy!
Resources and Tools
Let’s start with some of my favourite organization/streamlining tips- Google Alerts. Basically, this tool which is ridiculously easy to use, allows you to have the web scanned daily for anything you want to monitor. Use it to monitor your stock symbol news, information on medication you take, news from NASA, literally anything you want the web scanned for. Each day, or a couple times a day if there is enough content found, you will receive a Google Alerts email in your inbox that streamlines all this information for you in one email. Genuis! I write content for other companies so I also use it to scan for relevant news, articles and posts that I can use to build content.
Reddit – If you haven’t started using this tool yet, you have to! I spend more time on this site than any other, because everything I want is condensed on one page.
“At its core, Reddit is a social sharing website. It’s built around users who submit links, pictures, and text, which everyone can then vote on. The best content rises to the top, while downvoted content becomes less visible.” Why I find this such a godsend is how deep down you can drill to information you want. You basically join the site, create a username, and then start subscribing to “subreddits” that align with your interest. Some of my favourite Subreddits include:
/r/OnGuardForThee , /r/PersonalFinanceCanada /, /r/Oldrecipes, /r/Space, /r/Earthporn / /r/keto and /r/ketotrees
There are *hundreds* of subreddits!
Each time you log into Reddit you are presented with a page that is strictly full of the content you’ve opted in to see by subscribing to these subreddits. The more you use it, the more useful and precise it will become for you. It’s like one page to find everything you want to read on the web. What i like about it too, is the fact that the content is from global readers, not just North Americans. You will learn about things you never imagined possible, from sources you never thought about, all at your fingertips!
